The highly publicized search for six-year-old William Yau Zhen Zhong has come to an end when his parents identified his body at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang after a decomposed body of a boy was found near Port Klang.
The search for missing six-year-old William Yau came to an end with the discovery of his highly decomposed body found near Port Klang. His distraught parents identified the body based on the shorts and underwear he was wearing as well as the scars on his head.
William Yau was reported missing on January 16 after he and his siblings were left in the family car when his parents went to into an electrical store. William reportedly left the family car in search for his parents when his younger sister started crying, but when his parents returned, he was nowhere to be found.
Malaysians combined efforts in the search for the missing boy. But the hearts of Malaysians throughout the country sank when news of a body of a young boy was fished out of Klang River on Friday.
Murder or a tragic misadventure?
How did the body of the boy with such a sweet smile end up dead in a river? There are several questions that are yet to be answered.
There is speculation that the boy could have wandered off and fallen into a monsoon drain which carried the body to the river, but checks by The Star newspaper reported no large drains near the electronic store in Putra Heights where William was last seen.
There is also the question on whether he was abducted and killed, with his body then dumped in the river.
Boy died a week ago
Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said that the post-mortem results could not determine the cause of death of the boy’s body because it was too badly decomposed.
“But we have established that he had been dead for about a week, based on the level of decomposition,” he said.
Police are reportedly investigating and re-examining all angles to find out how he died and how his body ended up near Port Klang. So all we can do is patiently wait and see what evidence investigators uncover to find out exactly happened to poor William Yau.
DNA results confirms that it’s William
The DNA test confirms that the body does in fact belong to William Yau. Police are now investigating whether he was a victim of abuse before his untimely death.
The police are in the process of collect statements to facilitate the investigation.
William’s remains cremated in Malacca
William Lau’s remains were cremated in Malacca after his body was collected by his family the previous day.
It is reported that the William’s parents visited Kampung Sungai Sireh Jetty in Port Klang the previous day, where the boy’s body was discovered, to conduct a religious ceremony.
