8 Best Places to go for Babymoon
8 Best Places to go for Babymoon
With all the planning and preparation that my husband and I were doing when I was pregnant, we sadly missed out on our one and only chance of going on a babymoon. Although he’d try to console me by saying that we could always plan a getaway with our 1-year-old daughter in tow, it just wouldn’t be the same as the 2 of us going on a holiday to enjoy some alone time before becoming a family of 3. I don’t want other mums out there to feel the same way I did so, to make it easier for all you expecting mamas to plan that special trip before the big day, here’s a list of 8 best babymoon places to consider:
1. Bintan
The nearest island laced with beach resorts, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a spot for a babymoon in Bintan. For a villa-style holiday where you and hubby can enjoy romantic dinners and take long walks along the beach, try Banyan Tree Bintan or The Sanchaya beachfront resort estate. Being a family-friendly place, you can also take your older kids along with you on your babymoon trip, especially if you and hubby would like to spend some quality time with them before the newest member of your family comes along.
theAsianparent reader Cheryl Loh and her husband decided to go on a babymoon trip when she was 6 months pregnant with her second child last year. As the trip coincided with her birthday, the couple decided to bring their eldest daughter along. “We wanted to go for a trip to relax and bond with our eldest girl before our second child was born. We stayed at Bintan Lagoon Resort where we spent a lot of time in the swimming pool and on the beach (our girl loves the water!). My husband and I also treated ourselves to a relaxing massage during the trip," Cheryl shares.
2. Bali
For a quiet and relaxing day on the beach in Bali, Nusa Dua and Canggu beaches are perfect choices as these beach locations are further away from the town centre (i.e. away from the crowd and traffic). Be sure to head down to Jimbaran at dusk to enjoy a delicious grilled feast at one of the Indonesian-style beach cafes. After all, it will be YEARS before you’ll have the luxury to enjoy moments like these with hubby without thinking (or talking about) the baby and wondering if he/she is OK at home with the babysitter or whoever it is you’ve asked to watch him/her.
If you’re looking for ideas on what to do during your babymoon in Bali, perhaps you could follow the footsteps of theAsianparent reader, Cindy Gan who went on a babymoon to the Island of Gods last July to catch the Kite Festival. Besides that, Cindy also did some swimming and had a prenatal massage during the trip, and enjoyed some beach time with hubby and their baby in her tummy.
3. Bangkok
Are you eager to stock up on maternity and baby clothes, cute accessories and quirky nursery décor? Why not opt for a city-style babymoon in Bangkok?
You can shop to your heart’s content at local markets like Chatuchak, Pratunam and Saphan Phut Night market, or go for mid to high-end shopping malls like Siam Paragon, Mahboonkrong (MBK Center) and Platinum Fashion Mall. And when you’re feeling exhausted with all the shopping, walking and haggling, there are plenty of spas and massage centres at every corner in the bustling city — perfect for de-stressing and relaxing!
4. Da Nang
Da Nang is a little unknown paradise in central Vietnam that’s currently relatively untouched by mass tourism — making it the perfect babymoon destination for couples to consider. Besides being surrounded by powdery sandy beaches that overlook the South China Sea, Da Nang is also close to several UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Ancient Town of Hoi An, My Son (an archaeological site which has been around for more than 1,000 years) and the Imperial City of Hue. So there’s plenty to see and do during your trip to Da Nang!
First-time mum Tina George suggests Fusion Maia Spa Resort for couples who are looking to go on a babymoon to Da Nang. One of the top-rated spa resorts in the port city, rates at Fusion Maia include buffet breakfast and 2 spa treatments a day. According to Tina, you can also request for additional spa treatments during your stay there, as long as the spa is not fully booked during that time. “The spa treatments available to me were limited [at that time] due to my pregnancy, but I had a great time nonetheless," she adds.
5. Maldives
Known for being the ‘Paradise Island Resort’, Maldives is home to some of the best beaches in the world. Think whiter-than-white powder sand and clear-cyan blue waters all around. However, the best thing about Maldives is probably the fact that every resort there is nicely spaced out, so you’ll definitely get to spend quality time alone with your better half during the trip.
For Sazlina Kimpton and her husband, the decision to choose Maldives as their babymoon destination came naturally as they both had the paradise island resort at the top of their list of ‘places to go.’ And what better time to make the trip than when they were pregnant with their second child last year!
“We knew that it’s either now or never, as the impending journey to parenthood may keep us busy for a while," Sazline shares. During the trip, the couple stayed at a lovely atoll called Ohuveli Beach & Spa resort, where they enjoyed snorkelling, fishing, swimming and simply relaxing their days away. “We had one of those huts on water, and it was truly magical as the sea was literally at our doorstep. Love to revisit the resort again, perhaps when the kids are much older!" Sazlina enthuses.
6. London
If you’re up for something more adventurous for your babymoon, a trip to London could be an option to consider. One of the most visited cities in the world, London has something for everyone — from Westminster Abbey and Hampton Court to the British Museum, Selfridges on Oxford Street and more!
Another great thing about London is that it’s just a short train ride away to other amazing cities in the United Kingdom. First-time mum Yong Ying and her husband grabbed the opportunity to make a trip down to Old Trafford in Manchester to catch the Manchester United vs Liverpool football match during their babymoon. “My hubby is a loyal supporter of Man U, and I’m also a big Man U fan. We really enjoyed the match, although it was very cold and snowing at that time. Thankfully, I didn’t have much problems adjusting to the weather — I made sure to keep myself hydrated and I slathered on lots of moisturiser."
