I was so cute when I thought I was tired back before I had kids. SO CUTE.

I recently stumbled on freelance illustrator Liesbeth Ton’s work and had a really hearty laugh reading comic after comic. She has really taken the struggles of everyday parenting that every parent would be able to relate to and throwing in a bunch of humour altogether in parenting comics.

Ton, who is originally from the Netherlands and now lives in Los Angeles, shares her work of funny parenting comics at Betje.com. Many of Ton’s illustrations tell the story of her daily experience having 3 kids. She’s hitting 10 years of motherhood and have made lots of cartoons about her adventure.

Here are some of my favourite parenting comics:

#1 Bathing Together

Sometimes bathing together is the only way you are ever going to shower at all. If I could help it, I wouldn’t bath first and sit there supervising only to end up sweating again. Gotta love Malaysian weather. So, to be honest, I don’t mind showering with the girls, that is until they start asking very, VERY EMBARRASSING questions in that LOUD voice of theirs. Did I mention our toilet echoes, and the window is open? Cringeeeeee..

#2 On Babywearing Woes

Those inquisitive hands, fingers that love getting into your nooks and crannies. Even when I back carry my hair gets yanked and played with until they end up in tangled knots. I get free ear digging services too. It was the biggest reason why I chopped off my locks.

#3 Let’s All Hog Daddy’s Laptop

This happens to both of us at home, and ALWAYS when either one of us are rushing work. It is almost as if they have an inbuilt radar for this! On some days the younger is feeding as I type out articles.

#4 Too Much Me Time

I know right? I’m not even sure what’s wrong with me sometimes. I mean how often does this opportunity come along?! I blame myself for being too good at multitasking *koff-koff*. Usually, I would be out with a couple of girlfriends but in the event I’m not and I’m just stuck at home. This happens.

I think I haven’t slowed down in so long, I forget it exists. Then when I’m actually done with everything, I just sit there like a loon wondering what else to do.

#5 No Phones on the Table

WAS and IS the rule actually. The Husband made the rule, but also breaks it himself sometimes so can you blame me? I’m usually the one getting told off for doing this. But you see, my youngest takes a gazillion years to finish her food. By then I’m usually done eating mine and feeling like I should multi-task on my phone instead of yelling for her to stop hamstering her food. Take the lesser of evils?

#6 This Is Me EVERY Sunday

My husband can vouch for this. Come Sunday and I turn into this raving banshee trying to round kids and husband through breakfast and getting all of us to church ON TIME.

Early is wishful, late is too common, so I aim for “on time”. Every single Sunday it is like this *rolls eyes* – without fail.

#7 Me Time

When you finally get some ME time but you have no idea what else to do. I don’t even know what I deem worth doing for 1 hour at home. Korean dramas? But I’ve caught up on all!

#8 Are You Kidding Me?

I haven’t even been to a movie in AGES! Let alone travel without the kids.
