Sometimes you just need to sink your teeth into a nice, juicy cut of meat that has been expertly seared to perfection. Best of all, in a country where the biggest population are Muslims, it’s not hard to find steak spots that offer halal certified meat cuts.

KL Halal Steak Restaurants

Here are just a few selections:

Chambers Grill, KL Hilton

Chamber’s Grill is annexed to the hotel’s main bar and lounge and offers prime cuts of beef dry-aged for weeks in Himalayan salt chambers. You can opt for meats or seafood cooked over lava stone, charcoal or on their innovative robatayaki-style counter. The sides are interesting too, with the roast garlic confit offering an amazing counterpoint to the succulent meat.

Angus Charcoal Steakhouse, Starhill Gallery

The Wagyu beef in this Japanese steak restaurant is extremely tender and juicy. The steaks are charcoaled grilled in an open kitchen then served on brass sizzling plates, with a wooden base, so eat quickly or your steaks will just keep cooking!

The steaks are served with a slice of lime and herbed butter and a light sauce made with shoyu, minced radish, and mirin that balances out the steak’s flavours marvelously.

Las Vacas, Kelana Jaya, Mont Kiara and KLCC

Las-Vascas

Recreate the steak of your choice in this food joint that should satisfy even the most discerning of meat connoisseurs. Las Vacas features professionally trained butchers stocked with prime meats as well as a wide range of selection of prepared items on the menu.

You can opt for premium beef cuts of striploin, tenderloin, t-bone, rump and ribeye choosing between grass-fed or grain-fed Australian meats. Pick what you like and the kitchen will prepare it for you.

Marble 8, Jalan Binjai

While it’s nice to have a nice juicy steak in the restaurant, the Covid-19 pandemic is a concern for many. If you’re craving for some nice meaty steak but not too keen on dining in, here is a list of restaurants from which you can order online. After all, you shouldn’t be deprived of a good meal just because of the coronavirus!

  1. Station 21 – Bangsar
  2. Eye’s Steak – Pantai Dalam
  3. TTDI Meat Point – TTDI
  4. Sixty9 Islamic Steakhouse – Taman Melawati
  5. JAHHET Fine Meat – Taman Nirwana, Ampang
  6. Las Vacas – Desa Sri Hartamas

How to choose steak at a restaurant?

Once you’ve decided on the restaurant, it’s time to order your food. If you’re not a steak expert, ordering steak can become quite a challenge. Here are some useful terms to know:

Types of beef cuts

  • Ribeye steak – Well marbled and thus, extremely flavourful
  • Strip steak – Referred to as the New York Strip when it’s boneless, this cut of beef has decent marbling. It comes from the short loin area above the ribs.
  • Tenderloin or chateaubriand steak – Extremely lean and tender but considered a little less flavourful than other cuts. Nonetheless, it has a smooth and buttery texture that many enjoy.
  • Porterhouse steak – Always presented on the bone, the porterhouse is a large cut of beef.
  • Hanger steak – From the upper belly area, the hanger steak is tender and ‘beefy’.

Steak cook levels

One you’ve chosen your beef cut, your waiter will most likely ask you how you would like it cooked. Here are the different steak cooking levels:

  • Rare – meat is cooked up to 5 oC. It’s still a thick red colour although the surface is browned. Although juicy, it may feel rather raw when you take a bite.
  • Medium rare –  Considered the ‘gold standard’, a medium rare steak is red in its centre and pink between the centre and surface. Medium rare steak is tender and juicy.
  • Medium – A medium steak is still pink but does not have a red centre. They are still flavorful but are slightly less tender/juicy due to loss of moisture.
  • Medium well – There is still some pink, but medium well steaks are considered less tender.
  • Well done – Well done steak is really cooked through with absolutely no red. The surface may look burnt and it is much tougher and drier than you’d probably want it to be.

Try one of the above mentioned restaurants if you’re craving for steak! Whether you dine in, take away or order delivery, a nice juicy steak can make your day.
