Malaysia’s Primary School Evaluation Test known as Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) is a national examination taken by all primary six students in Malaysia before they leave for secondary school.

This year, there has been a 0.54% decrease from last year in the number of candidates who scored straight A’s. Out of the 503,928 candidates who sat for the examination, a total of 45,054 scored straight A’s.

A further 17,251 candidates scored below the minimum achievement (those with grades D, E, or a combination of both).

However, more students this year received good or average scores. A total of 286,930 candidates managed to score grades above C.

“The percentage of candidates with good scores with a minimum Grade C, not including straight A scores, increased by 1.49%,” said Malaysia Examinations Board director Dr Na’imah Ishak when announcing the results on Monday.

However, she said that the results for each individual subject also showed a drop in performance.

Dr Na’imah Ishak said that a study must be done by the State’s education department to find the reason for the decline.
