Soups are a wonderfully simple and healthy way to introduce the little one to the world of adult food, especially if your little one isn’t so keen on drinking plain water. Have it with rice or pasta; with a bowl of soup, baby gets his nutrients and hydration in one go.

Best of all soup is really easy to make. Simply toss all ingredients into a double boiler or slow cooker and let it do the job. Of course, you can do it the old fashioned way over the stove as well, just remember to watch the fire!

Healthy soup recipes for babies:

ABC Soup

Hearty, yummy with lots of vegetables!

Ingredients:

  • 300g chicken breast
  • 1 handful of goji berries
  • 2 carrots, peeled and cut to chunks
  • 1 potato, peeled and cut to chunks
  • 3 tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 1 sweet corn, cut to chunks
  • 3L of water

  1. Blanch chicken breast in a pot of boiling water.
  2. Bring another pot of water to boil. Add in chicken breast, goji berries, carrot, potato, sweet corn, tomatoes and onion into the boiling water.
  3. Once the pot is boiling, lower the what and then simmer over low fire for at least 2 hours before serving.

Black Bean and Black Chicken Soup

Black beans are full of fiber and nutrients while black chicken is packed with antioxidants.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 black chicken
  • 1 cup of black beans
  • 1 handful of goji berries
  • 10 red dates
  • 2L of water

  • 2 sections of lotus root, scrubbed, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 300g chicken breast
  • 1 carrot, peeled and cut to chunks
  • 10 red dates
  • 1 handful of goji berries
  • 2L of water

  2. Bring another pot of water to boil. Add in pork ribs or chicken breast, carrot, goji berries and red dates into the boiling water.
  3. Once the pot is boiling, lower the fire and simmer for at least 2 hours before serving.

Old Cucumber Soup with Azuki Beans and Lentil

This soup is believed to help reduce moisture; its also got lots of protein!

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized old cucumber
  • 300g chicken breast
  • 80g of azuki beans
  • 80g of lentil
  • 3-4 large dried dates
  • 1 piece of dried tangerine peel
  • 2-3 L of water

Directions:

  1. Blanch the chicken breast in a separate pot of boiling water.
  2. Wash tangerine peel while scraping off seed pouches with a small knife.
  3. Wash and peel old cucumber.  Keep the skin and remove seed pouch.  Cut into large cubes.
  4. Bring water to a boil and put all the ingredients in together.  Bring to boil.
  5. Reduce to low heat and simmer for 3 hours.
