Imagine watching several colourful shapes decorate our Malaysian sky. Lying on the grass with your family and enjoy the shapes move by above you. Some are round, but some take the shape of popular cartoon characters and animals. Hot air balloons are such a beautiful marvel to admire – and the kids love it!

On top of seeing the magical shapes floating on the sky, we can experience what it feels like to float  in a hot air balloon along with taking part in various fun and exciting activities.

The 5th Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2013 returns to its Monumen Alaf Baru (also known as the Millennium Monument) grounds in Putrajaya, from 28th – 31st March 2013. The thriving government capital will be converted to a major tourist and visitor attraction site over a four-day period balloon fiesta!

What the event is all about?

The heart of the event

About 20 Balloons by top balloonists around the globe will be present showcasing their special shaped balloons of various sizes. Don’t miss the Smurf Balloon, piloted by Koen Audenaert of Belgium or the ‘Clown’ Balloon’ by balloonist Sven Grenzner of Germany among many others.

Night glow event

The “night glow” event, where the hot air balloons will participate in a light and sound show on 30th March at 9 PM, culminating into a beautiful fireworks display, is highly anticipated.

Para Motor Pilots

The Para Motor Pilots will demonstrate their powered paragliding skills at 9am and 4:30pm daily. Enjoy stunts and aerobatic performances. The safest form of powered human aviation would be a treat for the eyes.

Most awaited events

Tethered hot air balloon ride

Featuring a whole new experience where visitors can actually go inside an anchored balloon at just RM 20 per person for a 5-7 min ride. Though the balloon is anchored to the ground, it hovers with its passengers and then slowly descends. You get the experience of seeing the burners ignite and being lifted into the air up to 50-80 ft. high.

Be early to collect tickets as these are limited to 300 passengers per session on a first-come, first-serve basis. Counters open at 7am (for the morning session) and 5pm (for the evening session). Minimum height for passengers is 4 feet.

Helicopter joy rides

Five minute Helicopter joy rides will take people for a spin over Putrajaya. This is an excellent way to gain a bird’s eye view of the city’s top attractions. Limit of max 4 passengers per ride. The rides will take place from 9am – 12pm and from 1pm – 4pm on the 30th and the 31st March (Saturday and Sunday only). If you don’t want to miss it, book online in advance.

Music performances

Music performances are by the Kuala Lumpur Jazz Festival and featuring artists such as Marcus Young and Phunkmob Rider to serenade music lovers.

Other attractions

Extreme Zone – Mountain Dew Extreme Zone features activities like Paintball, Waterball, Wall Climbing, Mini Orb, Bumper Orb, Zorbing, Segway and KMX bikes.

Kids Zone – There is ample lot of activities for kids of all ages apart from the Bazaar with 72 booths to keep the young ones busy. These range from carousel, inflatables to archery. Also fun competitions like the giant ‘Uno challenge’, ‘Boboi Boy colouring contest’ and the ‘Paper airplane competition’ will keep things interesting.

Special discounts

Visitors will also enjoy a 30% discount if they decide to use the KLIA Transit to Putrajaya during the fiesta period.
