Last weekend, Katie Holmes took some time away from glamorous events to focus on her family and celebrate the birthday of her mother, Kathleen Stothers-Holmes. Holmes, 37, and her family threw a surprise party for their mother, and judging from the photos, the evening was full of “#love” and “#gratitude”.

The actress shared photos of herself snuggling with her 10-year-old daughter Suri Cruise, captioning them with the hashtags #gratitude #love #blessed and #family.

Like many moms, Holmes has admitted to struggling with parenthood, especially now that she is a single parent. “Am I enough? Am I doing enough? Have I seen her enough?” she told People in 2014. “Guess what? You’re not enough, she hasn’t seen you enough, you’re horrible: That’s how it can feel sometimes.”

“You do the best you can,” she continued. “Some days you feel really good about yourself and some days you don’t.”
