Best date for marriage is the 12th day of the 12th month in the 12th year of this millennium is not going to slip away without couples dubbing the date as their “big day”. Several are calling this date as an “auspicious time” for marriage and an “easy anniversary date to remember”.

A lucky number
For Kelly Kiang, 30, and Alex Choi, 31, who said that 12 is their lucky number said that a 12-12-12 wedding date had always been in their plans.
Liang, a hotel sales manager in Penang said that she was born on February 12 while Choi’s birthday is on December 10. She also said that the first time they met took place at 12 noon.
“He was my customer then. We realised that the number 12 has always been significant to both of us so we wanted to make the ultimate day of 12s as our special day,” said Liang.
An auspicious date
Bamani Lingam, 27, and Thevendran Sakruvathy, 31, said that their Hindu priest had recommended 12-12-12 as the day they should get married.
“When we were picking out dates, the priest told us that 12-12-12 was a very auspicious date for marriage, according to our religion,” said Bamani, an assistant manager.
For Theyendran, the date appealed to him for a completely different reason.
“It’s easy to remember when anniversaries arrive,” he said.
A memorable date
Circulation worker G.V Lekshman, 24, said he would marry his 24-year-old girlfriend Sharon Sugumar on 12-12-12.
“It’s kind of a historic day for us since there’s not going to be a 13-13-13,” he said. “We wanted to do something memorable, which we can talk about in the future.”
A “wedding rush”
If you’re planning on tying the knot on 12-12-12, perhaps it’s a good idea to book your place to register your marriage on this historical date.
According to a National Registration Department spokesperson, they are bracing for a “wedding rush” on that date.
Mass registration events would be organised at several of its state branches and the National Registration Department is expecting a “record number” of couples.
“On 11-11-11, last year, 723 couples registered to be married nationwide,” she said.
In Penang itself, over 75 couples have already booked to register their marriage on 12-12-12 and more couples are expected to come forward, according to Penang Chinese Town Hall secretariat Koay Eng Seng.
“There’s not going to be another date like this in a century,” said Koay, adding that the hall registered 94 marriages last year on 11-11-11.
