Single mothers sue Selangor government for RM10.9m

Around 2,000 single mothers filed a lawsuit against the Selangor government for RM10.9 million in allowances as promised by the opposition pact in its 2008 election manifesto.

Single mothers sue Selangor government!

The women, led by Selangor’s Single Mothers Association chairman Murtini Kasman Saman, filed the suit through the law firm Tetuan Kamarudin & Partners at the High Court registry.

They named the Selangor government which consists of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, PAS and DAP as the first defendant. While Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who is the chief executive of the state as the second defendant.

They are demanding that the 2,020 plaintiffs be paid a “single mothers” allowance of RM100 per month for a total of 54 months (from 1 April 2008 to 30 October 2012), which works out to be RM10.9 million. On top of that, they are also seeking costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.
