Did you know that 40% of women face pregnancy discrimination at work?

A woman should be free to choose if and when to have children. She should not have to fear losing her job because she has a baby. Malaysian policy makers must ensure that employers are not discriminating pregnant women. Terminating, demoting, or failing to hire or promote a woman because she is pregnant is gender discrimination – Ms Sumitra Visvanathan, Executive Director of WAO.

Gender Equality Talks

WAO will be having talks on Gender Equality on 30th of November and 7th December in conjunction with #16Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Pregnancy should not be used by employers as an excuse.

Sadly, only about 1 in 8 women who had lost their jobs or promotions due to pregnancy actually lodged formal complaints.

Come and learn how we can create inclusive workplaces for women. Noorfadilla Ahmad Saikin who won a landmark court case on pregnancy discrimination will be sharing her story as well as her experience advocating for pregnant women’s rights.

Ms Sumitra Visvanathan, Executive Director of WAO, will touch on the topic of sexual harassment in December.
