Hasanah is a Kafa teacher at the Al-Amin Mosque in Sungai Layar, Sungai Petani. She never got to finish schooling as she had to drop out of school at the age of 15 to care for her siblings when her mother passed away.
“We also had financial problems and I took over the role of mother to my siblings after our mother died,” she said.
The mother of six expressed her hopes to excel in the SPM examination so that she can achieve her goal and enter university.
Another SPM candidate, Mahmud Sri Wijaya Othman, 48, a Kafa teacher at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanjung Dawai, Sungai Petani, said that he was inspired by his eldest son, Al-Kausar, 18, to sit for the exam.
“I dropped out in Standard Six and went to the Arab school. I’m grateful to my son for helping me in my studies and my family for their support,” the father of five said.
Also appearing for this year’s SPM exams are 19 soldiers from the Second Infantry Brigade’s Regional Education Centre programme. A total of 472,541 examinees will be taking the SPM exam which will be conducted at more than 3,500 centres across the nation till December 6.
