When I’m pressed for time but still need to make my baby something filling and nourishing, this avocado egg smash is my go-to recipe. It is simple, with minimal ingredients and cooking, and you can do it for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

Avocado is one of the most ideal first foods for baby

Smooth and creamy when mashed, you can offer it as early as 4-6 months old depending on you and your baby’s comfort level and readiness for solids.

Wonderfully nutritious, they are an easy source of essential vitamins, minerals and unsaturated fats which are needed for brain and visual development. They are easy to digest by babies, offers liver protection, offers antioxidants, can control inflammations, helps in healing wounds faster and has antimicrobial properties. Best of all, you don’t have to cook them before offering!

Eggs are known as a “perfect food”

They are a great source of protein and are rich sources of selenium, vitamin D, B2, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc, iron and copper. I find eggs a great first food, and have offered it to my baby since 6 months, but if you’re afraid that your baby may be allergic or your family has a history of egg allergies, you may need to delay introduction to 12 months.

Recipe for the avocado egg smash:

1/2 avocado
1 hardboiled egg
Tiny pinch of Himalayan salt and pepper
1 tsp olive oil

To make, simply boil your egg, and remove the shell. Cut your avocado in half and remove the flesh of the fruit. Put both into a bowl with a pinch of Himalayan salt, black pepper and a teaspoon of olive oil and mash altogether and you’re done!

This is the basic recipe, but you can modify and add some quinoa or rice to make it even more filling and nutritious. Alternately, you can have it on toast!
