Hosted by Jason Yeoh of Axian Food Adventures, the final, which will be held on Sunday, will showcase the cream of the crop and the winners will get the chance to win cash and prizes worth more than RM20,000.

This would be the second year the event has been showcased, following last year’s positive response. Four new categories has been introduced to the competition this year, including curry mee, nasi lemak, rojak and pasembur. Hokkien mee and char kway teow are the two other categories that make up the total of six categories in the competition.

For just RM10, foodies will be able to relish in the best hawker food Penang can offer at the daily taste-and-vote session that takes place between noon and 2pm until Saturday.

PTS general manager, C.C. Yeap, said that the tickets are limited to 300 daily for the preliminary round and 500 for the final day.

“Those interested are advised to purchase the tickets in advance from our information counter on the ground floor of the mall. The tickets come with free goodie bags and great prizes to be won at a lucky draw,” he said.

The lucky draw prizes consists of a Star Cruises 2D/1N [email protected] Cruise for two on board the SuperStar Libra worth RM880, a 2D/1N stay with breakfast for two at the newly-renovated deluxe room at Sunway Hotel Georgetown worth RM580, Anchor Tablets sponsored by Cablemaster Enterprise, iPod Shuffles, bedding sets and home electrical appliances.

Yeap said that the public votes during the preliminaries make up for 30 per cent of the marks for the participating hawkers, while the remainder would come from the panel of judges.

“The final round will see six panel judges deciding for the finalists. However, the public can still vote for the favourite stall to win the Most Popular Hawker Award during the final taste-and-vote session,” he said.

Yeap said that the competition would help them maintain the Pearl Orient’s global fame as a food paradise, putting Penang hawker food on the world map.
