5 Secret Steps To Getting Dewy Skin Like Koreans

5 Secret Steps To Getting Dewy Skin Like Koreans

Get that 'chok chok' radiant and hydrating effect with these easy steps!

When it comes to dewy skin, I’ve got to argue that Koreans does it best. ‘Chok chok‘ or ‘moist’ is a Korean phrase given to that ridiculously radiant, hydrated, baby-skin that Koreans rate so highly.

Obviously some time, TLC and a well-honed skincare routine are the key ‘ingredients’ to getting your skin looking this good. Here’s how you can achieve that:

Dewy Skin #1 Exfoliate, hydrate!

According to Park Tae Yun (one of Korea’s top makeup artists), the two most important steps toward achieving that dewy skin effect are exfoliation and hydration.

Korean beauty emphasises exfoliating as a method to fight dry skin and to bring out radiant and supple skin. Exfoliating daily is highly recommended because it prevents clogged pores and promotes cell turnover which helps with anti-aging and achieving that desired youthful look.

Recommended products:

Son & Park Beauty Water from Soko Glam
This cleansing micellar water has exfoliating properties, additional ingredients to clear pore and minerals that are great skin foods. Just sweep it across your face with a soft cotton pad.
Jeju Volcanic Pore Scrub from Innisfree
Squeeze a pea-size amount onto your hands and lather it well onto your face and rinse with warm water. Do this twice every week. The volcanic minerals help to effectively remove dirt and dead skin from pores.

#2 Moisturiser and face masks

Moisturising your face is an important step in Korean beauty regime. It will help you to look and feel younger, you will have softer, more elastic skin, and it will keep your skin hydrated. All of these things are important if you want to make sure to look as young as you can in the years to come.

Recommended products:

Bioderma Sensibio Rich Cream
Apply a thick layer of moisturising cream all over the face, again using a cotton pad to help exfoliate during application.

Laneige Brightening Sparkling Water Peeling Mask
This mask seeped in highly-concentrated sparkling water helps to brighten and moisturise skin while removing dead skin cells. Leave on face for 15 minutes before removing and dabbing in remaining essence.

#3 Hydrating cream foundation

korean skin tips

To get that dewy ‘no-makeup makeup’ look, you first need to invest in a hydrating cream foundation for a more youthful and fresh finish. Koreans tend to use water-based cushion foundations and use a dabbing method to blend it into the skin.

Foundation sticks are also a great investment formulated with hydrating ingredients such as shea butter, nourishing essence, argan oil (for an extra glow), and then buff it out with a clean brush.

Recommended product:

Ampoule Intense Complex cushion SPF34/PA++ 15G by Innisfree
This product protects the skin barrier, moisturising your skin for 24 hours. The highly refractive oil ingredients evenly distribute light, giving your skin a gorgeous natural glow.

The formulation’s cushioning effect makes fast absorption into the skin, providing a platform layer.
Directions: Put an appropriate amount on the puff, apply a light covering onto the skin and then gently dab it in. Reapply if needed.

#4 Moisturising cream-based highlighters

To emphasise that dewy look even further – apply cream-based highlighters on the high points of your face to capture the light. It will give you an instant dewy glow.

Recommended product:
Wander Beauty Catch the Light Highlighter

Take the cream-based highlighter and dot it on the high points of your face – the cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and one long streak on the bridge of the nose— then blend with a clean brush.

#5 It’s all about that glossy tinted lip

korean lips makeup

A small pop of colour on the lips and cheeks will help balance out the look and illuminate your skin. I would usually go for glossy lip tint and apply only on the inner part of the lips. Blend it out with a clean finger to get that natural ombre-pout effect. You can also use a lip tint for the apples of the cheek.
