Institut Jantung Negara Receives Accolades At Healthcare Asia Awards 2025

The company received the Technology Innovation of the Year - Malaysia and the Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year - Malaysia wins.

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 APRIL 2025 -Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) was honoured at the prestigious Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 with the Technology Innovation of the Year – Malaysia and the Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year – Malaysia category wins for its milestone in continuously setting new benchmarks in Malaysia’s medical landscape, highlighting its world- class expertise and cutting–edge procedures.

In 2024, IJN made history as the first hospital in Malaysia to achieve Stage 6 validation in the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). This prestigious accreditation underscored IJN’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and healthcare safety.

Achieving EMRAM Stage 6 signifies IJN’s success in integrating nearly fully automated electronic medical records, enabling real–time medical device integration, and implementing closed–loop medication administration and clinical decision support systems.

These advancements significantly enhance patient safety by streamlining workflows and ensuring immediate access to accurate medical information for improved decision–making.

IJN is now building on this milestone, focussed on achieving EMRAM Stage 7 this year, further elevating its digital capabilities to become Malaysia’s leading smart hospital. Central to this vision is the enhancement of the IJNCare app, designed to empower patients with seamless access to appointment scheduling, admission processes, and medication refills.

Meanwhile, a key technological advancement in the centre’s digital healthcare journey is the introduction of the first in Malaysia Automated Dispensing Medication System (ADMS), namely iPharma Bot System, a pharmacy automation solution. This system enhances medication management by improving accuracy, reducing dispensing errors, and significantly cutting patient waiting times.

The iPharma Bot enables a seamless and efficient medication dispensing process, ensuring that patients receive their prescriptions quickly whilst allowing pharmacists to focus on providing essential healthcare consultations. This innovation strengthens IJN’s commitment to digital transformation, further advancing its goal of providing superior patient care through smart healthcare solutions.

At the same time, the hospital is also expanding its advanced monitoring systems across more clinical areas to enhance patient oversight and care efficiency. By leveraging data analytics, IJN is identifying key health trends, improving resource allocation, and optimising hospital operations.

The company has also made several medical innovations, amongst which is the Periventricular Off–Pump Device Closure for ventricular septal defect (VSD). This minimally invasive technique involves closing a VSD without the use of cardiopulmonary bypass, in which a device is delivered directly through the heart muscle to seal the defect, reducing surgical risks and recovery time.

Another one is the MitraClip and TriClip devices, which are used in transcatheter edge–to–edge repair procedures to treat mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation, respectively. These interventions involve clipping together the leaflets of the affected valve to reduce regurgitation.

IJN has also introduced the Evolut FX in treating aortic stenosis. The device is a next–generation transcatheter aortic valve replacement system designed for patients with severe aortic stenosis. It offers enhanced precision in placement and improved conformability to the native annulus.

Such milestones reflect the centre’s pioneering leadership and patient–centric approach, demonstrating its relentless pursuit of medical excellence and positioning it as a leader in cardiovascular care.

IJN’s commitment to digitalisation is not merely a technological upgrade, but a transformative shift in the way healthcare is delivered. By integrating innovative health IT solutions, IJN is setting a new gold standard for patient–centric, data–driven, and technology–enhanced medical care.
