Sailfish Swim Academy Paves the ‘Wave’ with Affordable Swimming Lessons For Kids

Sailfish Swim Academy offers children aged 5 - 16 years old from low-income families classes at a significantly reduced fee of RM120 per month.

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 September 2024 – Malaysia’s leading swimming academy, Sailfish Swim Academy, is proud to announce their new Super Saver swimming classes for underprivileged children in the Klang Valley area.

Following closely with the Sports Basic Skills Training Programme for Swimming (KLAS Renang) initiative by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sailfish Swim Academy aims to make swimming – an essential life skill – accessible to all, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of learning how to swim.

Founded by Head Coach and SEA Games medalist, Ryan Kee Zhen Hao, Sailfish Swim Academy first began its journey with the mission to prevent cases of drowning amongst children by offering quality swimming lessons and water safety education. Currently, Sailfish

Swim Academy is dedicating their efforts to improving access to learning this life-saving skill for more children, especially those hailing from B40 or low-income families.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn how to swim, regardless of their family’s financial situation,” said Ryan Kee Zhen Hao, Head Coach at Sailfish Swim Academy. “Swimming is not only a vital life skill, but also a great way to build confidence, discipline, and physical fitness. By offering these affordable lessons, we hope to level the playing field and make sure that all children will get the chance to enjoy swimming and stay safe.”

Priced at just RM120 per month — compared to the regular RM270 monthly fee — the Super Saver classes are available for children aged 5 to 16 years old. The classes will be held weekly at the prestigious Tropicana, Berjaya and Bukit Kemuning clubs, generously supported by the establishments who are committed to making a difference in the community.

Currently, there are approximately 100 students enrolled in the Super Saver classes on a monthly basis and the academy is opening more sessions to welcome 400 more.

In addition, Sailfish Swim Academy aims to uncover and nurture new swimming talents by expanding accessibility through these affordable classes. By providing more opportunities for children who might not otherwise have the chance, the academy hopes to foster the next generation of swimming champions.

“Our goal is to unearth hidden talents,” added Ethan Chew Yizheng, Managing Director of Sailfish Swim Academy, “We firmly believe that extraordinary talent can emerge from the most unexpected places, but only if we create the right opportunities and open doors to everyone regardless of their background. The recent Olympics have shown us that Malaysia has immense potential in various sports, including swimming. With the right support system, we know that there are countless young swimmers – and, perhaps, even future Olympians – just waiting to be discovered.”

As part of their newfound mission, Sailfish Swim Academy has collaborated with several schools, including Tahfiz and special needs schools, to reach as many children as possible. With experienced coaches and a supportive, inclusive learning environment, the academy is committed to nurturing the next generation of confident, capable swimmers regardless of their background.

Understanding the importance of accessibility, Sailfish Swim Academy is open to collaboration with public and government-sanctioned agencies to further bridge the gap for young aspiring swimmers across Malaysia.

Currently, the academy welcomes approximately 1,500 students every month, offering a variety of lessons from beginner to competitive levels and is tailored for students as young as 4 months to 17 years of age.

Sailfish is looking to increase their capacity to welcome another 1,000 students monthly. This includes the launch of their classes at Gamuda Cove, which will be available for registration starting from September 2024.
