Do you think you’re beautiful?

You are more beautiful than you think!

When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you think that you’re beautiful? Most women would say no. In fact, only 4% of women around the world consider themselves to be beautiful.

Imagine a world where you can look at yourself in the mirror and feel beautiful and confident. This kind of self-confidence will undoubtedly affect your decisions, your personality and your overall outlook on your life.

Real Beauty Sketches experiment

Dove is committed to building this positive self-esteem and they aim to inspire all women and girls to reach their full potential. That is why Dove decided to conduct this compelling social experiment ‘Real Beauty Sketches’ that proves to women that you are more beautiful than you think.

Dove brought in seven women of different ages and backgrounds to a warehouse where FBI-trained forensic artist Gil Zamora create composite sketches of them based on the descriptions they give of themselves.

How would you describe a total stranger?

Before entering the room, each woman was asked to spend time with a stranger but they weren’t told why. After Gil sketched a portrait of each woman, they were then asked to describe the stranger they just met before coming in.

The results of the sketches were astonishing. The two drawings, one described by the woman herself and the other describe by a total stranger, produced a stark contrast. Resulting in the tagline of the campaign: “You are more beautiful than you think.”

Women are more critical

The way we see ourselves greatly impacts our life.

“I should be more grateful of my natural beauty. It impacts the choices and friends that we make, the jobs we apply for, how we treat our children. It impacts everything. It couldn’t be more critical to your happiness,” exclaimed Florence, a participant of the experiment.

Melinda, another participant wisely reflects how women’s perceptions of themselves are harsh when in actual fact that’s not how the world sees us.

“We spend a lot of time as women analyzing and trying to fix the things which aren’t quite right. And we should spend more time appreciating the things that we do like,” she says.

Having someone tell you how you look great in that dress or how your makeup makes your eyes pop really goes wonders. That little comment can enforce so much positive energy and makes a woman feel so much better about herself. We should definitely compliment and support the women around us, and they are sure to do the same for you!

2)      Be well-groomed

We aren’t all supermodels but we are all beautiful in our own way. Be sure to accentuate your best feature whether it be your super long legs, or beautiful brown eyes! Do up your hair, wear some make-up and dress to impress! When you look good, you will feel good.

3)      Stand tall

Your body language has a huge impact on how you feel and what others think of you. Show off your beauty by standing up straight, walking confidently and making eye-contact with others. Don’t forget to smile and speak loud and clear when talking to others.

4)      Challenge negative thoughts

We all occasionally have negative thoughts running through our mind such as, “I can’t do this…”, “I look terrible…” or “Nobody cares…”. You should identify these negative thoughts and challenge them. “I’m so fat” should turn into: well I may be a little overweight but I’m eating healthily and exercising so becoming slimmer and fitter every day. Always look at things more positively!

5)      Exercise

Exercise releases feel-good hormones which gives us an instant boost. It makes us feel more confident about the way we look and gives us more energy. If you’re not a fan of the gym, you can go for a brisk walk in the park or dance around your room!
