Now I don’t know about you but breastfeeding makes me hungry. Like, really really hungry. All the time, but especially in the morning. When I was child-free, all I would have for breakfast every morning was a cup of coffee.
But now that I’m breastfeeding, I’ve converted to the belief that breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day. It gives me the energy to get up and going and adding in foods that help with lactation keeps my supply up, naturally.
Let me share my breakfast with you, along with some other delicious breakfast recipes from other mums that will satisfy your appetite first thing in the morning, and increase lactation throughout the day.
Oats
I start everyday with rolled oats and a combination of flaxseed, chia seeds, black sesame seeds, shaved coconut, coconut oil, cinnamon and cocoa powder. I’ll throw in some fruit that I have handy, sunflower or pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate chips.
You can use any milk you like. Rolled oats, flaxseed and coconut help with lactation, adding in fruits provides some vitamins and the chocolate makes everything extra decadent. This recipe makes breakfast my favourite meal of the day!
Flaxseed Porridge
Flaxseed is a power ingredient that’s well known for its milk-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties. Pickles & Honey created this vegan flaxseed porridge topped with banana, blueberry and walnuts for sweetness and crunch. The ingredients are minimal and preparation is super easy!
