Sure, as mothers, we’ve all felt the pressure to get back into shape after a pregnancy especially with all the pictures of celebrity mums such as Heidi Klum miraculously transforming back into the svelte figures only months after giving birth.
Because of this, many women are actually dieting and exercising more intensively during pregnancy, with the hope that this will make it easier and quicker for them to get into their pre-pregnancy shape.
However, studies have shown that whilst attempting to stay trim during pregnancy, too many expectant mums are limiting their daily calorie intake and continuing to follow strict exercise regimes. This actually not only puts their own health at risk but also the wellbeing of their unborn baby, all for the sake of keeping weight off.
Pat O’Brien, a consultant obstetrician at University College Hospital and the Portland Hospital in London, told the Daily Mail: “It’s vital women know that pregnancy is no time to be starving yourself. During the nine months it is in the womb the baby is growing faster than it ever will in later life.”
