As mums it goes without saying that our little ones are the priority. Yet there is something so nice about taking care of ourselves when we can squeeze a few minutes here and there. Sometimes a face mask or scrub can really make all the difference in getting the skin to glow and soothing a tired soul.
Here are some DIY skincare products with ingredients you can find in your own kitchen! Quick, convenient, and you won’t need to break the piggy bank.
Lemon Sugar Scrub
This is super simple. Grab a cotton pad, soak with freshly squeezed lemon juice (about a slice) and add 1/2 a teaspoon of sugar. Gently rub on your face.
Lemon whitens and brightens the skin while sugar exfoliates, cleaning pores and getting rid of dull dead skin. This works really well for oily skin.
Egg White Mask
One ingredient is all you need for tighter, toned skin with reduced sebum. Simply whisk the egg white of 1 egg and apply to skin for 15 minutes.
Basil Toner
Basil has antiseptic qualities which help to ward off breakouts. It’s also anti-aging, making it one miraculous herb. Crush 20-30 fresh basil leaves in your pestle and mortar to create a paste. Pour 2 cups of boiling water and steep for 10-15 minutes. It will last a week if you keep it in the fridge.
Yogurt Honey and Oat Face Mask
This one is yummy, nourishing and leaves skin glowing and soft. Yogurt contains lactic acid which gently exfoliates dead skin cells and brightens the complexion. It also contains probiotics which is good for healing blemishes.
Honey has potent moisturising and hydrating properties that promote smooth, supple skin. Oatmeal is an absorbent that sucks out all the bad oil that clogs pores hence preventing acne and blackheads. Just mix a teaspoon of each together, apply and leave for 15 minutes.
Banana, Turmeric and Coconut Oil Mask
This is a good acne-fighting mask because both turmeric and coconut oil both possess antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric also evens out skin discolouration and makes skin supple while banana is hydrating and moisturising. Just add 1/2 a ripe banana, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder to a teaspoon of coconut oil, apply and leave for 15 minutes.
