Public Breastfeeding: Experiencing breastfeeding in public

theAsianparent reader, Ee Lane is a full time working mother. She is also a wife to a devoted husband Ivan and mother to her son, Baby Anthony.

Ee Lane has agreed to share some helpful tips and advice from her experience with breastfeeding her little boy.

1.       How long did you breastfeed for?

1 year.

2.       Why did you stop when you did?

After discussing with my husband Ivan as he was very worried with my nipple bleeding issues. The bleeding started due to aggressive pumping initially and it never recovered. Ivan and I decided it’s time to wean off and give myself some rest and to recover.

3.       What kind of diet did you follow when you’re breastfeeding?

Normal and healthy diet with lots of liquid such as plain Milo.

4.       What supplements did you take to increase milk supply?

Nothing overall but initially I did try some milk tea to increase milk supply.

5.       How did you deal with breast engorgement?

Direct latching and ensure that I do not skip any pumping sessions more than 6 hours.

6.       Who did you turn to for breastfeeding advice?

Midwives, Nurses, Friends, TheBreastfeedingAdvocatesNetwork (TBAN) Facebook Page.

7.       How do you feel about public breastfeeding?

I believe that every mother has the right to feed their baby anytime and everywhere. I’ve publicly breastfeed during flights, in shopping centers and during friends gatherings.

8.       When did you wean your child?

After Baby Anthony’s first birthday.
