The National University of Singapore (NUS) had decided to take disciplinary action against Malaysian law scholar Alvin Tan, 24, who posted up lewd photos and videos of himself and his girlfriend on their blog.
In a statement to the media, a NUS spokesman said that the disciplinary board had considered the seriousness of the offence and concluded that “Tan’s inappropriate conduct was detrimental to the reputation and dignity of the university”.
The NUS spokesman who declined to elaborate on the type of punishment Tan, an Asean scholarship holder, will be receiving said that he had been notified of the board’s decision.
The sex blog
Tan and his Malaysian girlfriend, Vivian Lee, came under public scrutiny when their sex blog, Sumptious Erotica went viral last month.
The blog, which had been taken down, included photos and videos of the pair having sex.
Mixed opinions
The public had mixed views about the couple and their erotic pictures and sex videos. Parents used the words “stupid”, “disgraceful” and “selfish”. Whereas others were more nonchalant about the issue saying that there was nothing wrong or immoral about the material.
“I cannot understand why people have to make so much fuss about this. It is our private affair,” said Lee.
“To us, the pictures on the blog were a work of art. We are open-minded people and we just want to share this with the world,” she said.
What’s next?
In previous interviews, Tan mentioned that he and his girlfriend will “stick together and have a lot of sex, and record it too”.
He said that he would like to use the new-found fame to build a following. In an earlier interview he admitted that although his life “did not depend” on staying at NUS, he would rather not face expulsion.
