Malaysian "Pokemon Soft Toy Uncle" Saved By The Internet!

Malaysian "Pokemon Soft Toy Uncle" Saved By The Internet!

Malaysians showed that they are just great big softies on the inside when injustice is done, especially to an elderly cancer-stricken man.

Malaysians showed that they are just great big softies on the inside when injustice is done, especially to an elderly cancer-stricken man.

Uncle David Christopher is a street vendor selling soft toys and is usually found at HSBC Bank in Damansara Uptown. A single father battling leukemia, he is selling soft toys to cover his medical bills. He was left with an overstock of Pokemon toys, 250 of them to be precise, after someone ordered them but never came to pick up.

When a passer-by saw his plight, he bought a bagful of the toys, posted an image of Christopher, the heap of toys and shared his plight on social media.

Word spread like wildfire and help began to pour in. He sold 190 dolls in just two hours.

Uncle David was so moved by the generosity saying:  “Thank God! If people wanted to cheat, I can’t do anything about it”.

“What then happened is that within two hours, God sent His soldiers around,” Christopher said.

The local media jumped in on the story and Uncle David’s story has now been covered by international outlets like the BBC and Buzzfeed!

People have shown up from far and wide to help Uncle David and he’s enjoying better sales than ever before thanks to the network of support.

“Back then, I was struggling to sell 50 toys a week. Now I sell about 500 a day,” he said, saying sales picked up when people started posting about him on social media.

And while Uncle David is really grateful to the public for all the support, he refuses to take additional payment for his toys, preferring to stick to set prices.

Such is the power of social media and human compassion!
