Students traumatized over teachers demads
On top of being allegedly forced to strip and perform 700 push-ups over an uploaded YouTube video, the group of 17 students from a boarding school in Johor Bahru were also slapped, kicked and punched by the teachers when they failed to comply with their demands.
According to Harian Metro, the uploaded video was a three-minute clip of the students imitating funny antics from a reality television program.
The video was uploaded onto YouTube on November 5 after the students sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Mathematics paper.
“I was informed (of the incident) by a father of another student from Kuala Lumpur,” said a victim’s parent Amir, 47
“As a result of the incident, my second child is now traumatized and has become quiet and reserved,” he said.
Amir said that the video clip in question did not contain any offensive material against the school and that the recording was done “for fun”.
“As if the humiliating demands were not enough, the teacher went further by threatening to blacklist the student’s SPM and school-leavers’ certificates if they were to mention the incident to their parents,” he said.
Amir has lodged a police report of the incident at the Sentral police station on Sunday.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zakarshi said that the ministry would investigate the allegations.
