How to be an up-to-date parent

24 Jul, 2013

The arrival of a new baby is a joy to any family, but it can also be a hectic experience for new parents. It is essential for new parents to be well informed so that you can help your child grow and prosper. Find out the secrets to being an up-to-date parent here.

Keep your eyes and ears open

Keep your eyes and ears open

You may have been introduced to parenthood recently but you have always been surrounded by it. Within your friend’s circle, in your neighborhood, even while commuting, you can see parents with kids everywhere. You must have noticed a mom calming a screaming crying kid at the store or a dad at the park pick up his fallen tot when hurt. Learn and observe from others how they do it. It is quite comforting to know that you are not alone handling parenting woes.
Read parenting books and articles

Read parenting books and articles

Read parenting books or related articles from newspapers and magazines. The fastest way to research on any given parenting topic is of course surfing the net. There is an awful lot of information out there within hands reach which sometimes feels like finding a needle in the haystack.
Use professional services

Use professional services

For information on particular issues this is your next best recourse. Only a professional can answer your queries precisely. A pediatrician offers medical help for sickness, vaccination, allergies and other health concerns of your child. Turn to a counselor for your child’s emotional and mental requirements. School teacher will assist you on his academic problems. Though there is a service fee attached this is the most reliable source when you are faced with emergencies.
Be involved in your child\'s schooling

Be involved in your child\'s schooling

Your child’s school is not outside the scope of your parenting. Share the responsibility of your child’s growth along with the school. Keep a track of school events by regularly visiting websites and other posts. Attend school meetings as this is the best time to discuss with teachers about your child’s progress.
Enroll your child in activities

Enroll your child in activities

Review local publication about any kid’s related activities conducted in the vicinity. Get a membership to any child development driven clubs in your area which organize dance, sports, gym, swim lessons and other basic age appropriate activities you may want your child to enroll. Subscribe for their email notifications so your child does not miss any special events conducted.
Socialize with other parents

Socialize with other parents

Maintain regular contact with parents of your child’s buddy or join a parenting community. Only a parent can understand another parent’s plight. Socialize with other parents to exchange ideas. You can discuss your action plan with them when faced with a similar dilemma. Whether the discussion is on any good child friendly product available in the market, places of interest, developing your child’s persona, or academic and career counseling; you will serve as each other’s information resource.
