"a chance for life.."

Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, lifetime chairman of Tunku Azizah Fertility Foundation (TAFF) is officiating IVFKasih today.

The IVFKasih programme, in partnership with [email protected] South (Sunfert) aims to help more married couples who have difficulty in conceiving, get pregnant at an earlier age.

A corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Sunfert, this is a low-cost IVF programme that uses a unique and innovative approach to reduce cost without affecting the pregnancy rate.

In a society that values fertility, often times couples who cannot conceive, suffer discrimination, stigma and ostracism. Soon all that would change.

With a tagline that reads, “a chance for life” and a committed all-inclusive, one low fee package with no hidden charges, younger couples can now afford IVF.

Cost Factor

According to Dr Norazlin Rosli, an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist from the Kasih Fertility Specialist Clinic, cost is a factor preventing couples from trying IVF. Charges at private medical centres and clinics range between RM18,000 and RM20,000 per treatment.

Meanwhile, government hospitals charge between RM5,000 and RM10,000, but the waiting list is long. Some may have to wait up to a year for their first attempt.

IVF does not guarantee pregnancy. When an attempt fails, not all couples can afford to repeat the treatment. Moreover, young couples who plan to start a family may not be financially able to try IVF.

Age Factor

Age is a deciding factor for the quality and quantity of eggs in women. The case is also the same in men: the quality of a man’s sperm also decreases with age. As you age, the fertilisation process becomes more difficult.

Having babies much later also contributes to complications during pregnancy such as hypertension, preterm baby and others.

But with IVF at such high costs, it is often more accesible to older couples who have reached financial stability.
